After seeing too many posts on how a vendor solution can cut down 90% of the kafka cost, I thought its important to share how to understand the cost of your kafka cluster before trusting whether a vendor solution would actually help in cutting down your cost.

For example implementing a tiered storage would cut down your kafka cost significantly if storage is the main cost driver, what if your cluster cost driver is Cross-AZ network transfer cost, or what if it is idle compute cost that is provisioned for peak load but idle most of the time.
